Fire Department Recruitment Open Houses

Farmington Fire-Rescue LogoThe city of Farmington’s Fire-Rescue Department will be holding three open house recruitment events to hire additional paid-on-call firefighters in March.

“This is the first time we’re doing an event like this,” said Fire Chief Justin Elvestad. “Daytime responders are what we’re really in need of. We’d like to meet people at these open houses who work from home or who are around the community during the day.”

Those interested can attend one of the following open houses:
March 14, 7 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2, 19695 Municipal Drive.
March 21, 7 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1, 21625 Denmark Ave.
March 27, 8 a.m. at Fire Station No. 2, 19695 Municipal Drive.
The open houses will provide a glimpse into what working in the Farmington Fire-Rescue Department is like. In this more informal setting, prospective paid-on-call firefighters will have the chance to tour the fire station, check out the fire trucks and explore the equipment. Current firefighters will be in attendance to answer questions about the job and the department.

“We encourage anyone thinking about this opportunity to bring their spouse along,” said Elvestad. “We want them to attend as well because a position like this affects the whole family.”

No fire-rescue training is required to be considered for a position as a paid-on-call firefighter. All training is done through the department. Firefighters are eligible for a retirement pension and hourly wage.
