[ARCHIVED] Controlled Burns in Middle Creek Park

Controlled burn pile attended by staff in the snow

Smell or See Smoke?

Starting Thursday, Feb. 12, Parks Maintenance staff will be conducting controlled burns of piled emerald ash borer (EAB)–infested ash trees, along with other invasive woody species such as buckthorn, in Middle Creek Park.

The Parks Department is working closely with the Farmington Fire Department, which has reviewed the plan and issued the required permit for this work.

Prescribed brush pile burning is being used because it minimizes impacts to the park’s natural resources and surrounding landscape. Current site conditions also limit access for larger equipment, making this the most effective and responsible management method currently.

Visitors may notice smoke in the area during operations. We appreciate your understanding as we work to restore and protect the health of the park’s natural areas.
