    Ride-alongs are a great chance to see what it is like to be a police officer in the City of Farmington. Ride-alongs typically last 4 hours. 

    Required:

    • Certification of Information
    • Responsibility, Restrictions and Procedures for Riders must be read and signed. 
    • Level One Security Awareness Training must be completed and signed.

    Please be patient while awaiting a scheduled date and time. The Farmington Police Department reserves the right to deny a ride-along request for any reason.

    I hereby certify that all the information provided herein is true and correct. I understand that failure to provide the requested information herein or providing false information in connection with the application shall be grounds for denying my request to participate in the Farmington Police Department ride-along program.

    I hereby authorize the Farmington Police Department to conduct a criminal history and warrant background investigation and hereby authorize the release of information obtained therefrom. I understand that this application may be denied on the basis of my criminal history, if any, or active warrants for my arrest. I understand that my participation in the Farmington Police Department ride-along program is voluntary by the Farmington Police Department and the approval or denial of my request to participate in the program is at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police, or his/her duly authorized representative.

    In the event my request to participate in the Farmington Police Department ride-along program is approved, I acknowledge and agree, as lawful consideration for being permitted to participate, to assume all risks of harm or injury to my person or property that may occur during my participation in the ride-along program. I specifically understand that the officer with whom I may ride during participation in the ride-along program may be involved in a high-speed chase, assaultive or life-threatening situations, and similar circumstances which may put me in peril.

    With knowledge of the risks of harm or injury which may occur as a result of my participation in the ride-along program, and my assumption of those risks, I agree to hold the City of Farmington harmless and waive any and all claims for any injury, harm or disability which I may incur as a result of intentional misconduct by the City of Farmington, its agents or employees. This assumption of risk and indemnification is specifically binding on my spouse, heirs and assigns. 

  7. Responsibility, Restrictions and Procedures for Riders.
    1. Attire: The rider must be dressed in a business casual manner. Casual clothing including tank or halter tops, short skirts/short shorts are not permitted. High heels are discouraged for safety purposes. Uniforms are prohibited, except for paid on-duty Farmington employees or persons exempted by the Chief of Police and with the agreement of the officer assigned.
    2. Age: Riders must be at least 18 years of age.
    3. Intoxication: Anyone who has, or appears to have, recently consumed alcoholic beverages or intoxicating drugs is prohibited from riding with a police officer.
    4. Criminal Record/Activity: Any individual who is a convicted felon or is suspected to be involved in criminal activity will not be allowed to participate in this program.
    5. Riders will follow instructions of the officer with whom they are riding.
    6. Riders will not:
      1. Carry or attempt to use any type of weapon. (Licensed Peace Officer Excluded)
      2. Communicate with or about anyone who is the subject of a police investigation, who is being arrested, or is otherwise involved in any police action.
      3. Be in possession of audio, video or still photography/recording devices without the written permission of the Chief or designee and the knowledge and consent of officer assigned.
    7. Riders will wear their seat belt at all times when riding in a police vehicle.
    8. If a rider becomes uncomfortable with their participation in the program they may terminate the ride and are responsible for immediately notifying the officer assigned to them.
  8. Level One Security Awareness Training

    Purpose and Overview

    This training is for all persons who have unescorted access to a physically secure location that processes or stores Criminal Justice Information (CJI). The information below is specifically for persons who should not access or handle Criminal Justice Information (CJI). The FBI CJIS Security Policy requires that all persons that have unescorted access to a physically secure location, that processes or stores Criminal Justice Information (CJI), must complete CJIS Security Awareness training to remain compliant.

    What is Criminal Justice Information (CJI)?

    Criminal Justice Information is confidential data that consists of stolen cars, stolen guns, missing persons, etc. It also includes criminal history and other data related to criminals.

    You are not authorized to access, read, handle or discuss Criminal Justice Information (CJI). It can only be used for authorized purposes. Proper disposal of all Criminal Justice Information (CJI) is the criminal justice agency’s responsibility.

    Unauthorized access, requests, receipt, release, interception, dissemination or discussion of Criminal Justice Information could result in criminal prosecution and/or termination of employment.

    The areas that process or store Criminal Justice Information (CJI) should be a secure area. Doors should be locked to prevent unauthorized access. It is your responsibility to help ensure this area stays secure. Report any unusual activity to your Agency contact and/or supervisor immediately. This includes any misuse of Criminal Justice Information (CJI) that you might witness or hear about. All incidents should be reported.
